Why do I need “skin care”?

Do I need to use all of the products in the Legacy skin care system?

A good skin care regimen includes cleansing, nutrition, and hydration.  Legacy skin care products are designed to be complimentary and formulated to work together to provide complete nourishment and hydration for a healthy looking and attractive complexion.  Legacy recommends the products be used together, in the correct sequence:  Cleanser (to cleanse), Serum (to nourish), then Moisturizer (to hydrate).

Do I need to use the nourishing Serum every time?

Ideally, you should use the nourishing Serum every time you cleanse and moisturize.  However, if you prefer to use Legacy nourishing Serum once per day only, apply at night before bedtime, after cleansing and before moisturizing.  During the night, while you are sleeping, is when your body renews and restores itself.  Supplying the skin-renewing benefits of Legacy nourishing Serum while your body is at rest and regenerating will ensure that your skin receives the maximum benefits.

Why is there I-26 in the nourishing Serum and the hydrating Moisturizer?

Can I use a bar soap or is it not necessary with Legacy foaming Cleanser?

t is not necessary to use soap in addition to Legacy foaming Cleanser.  In fact, bar soap can strip your skin, leaving it feeling taught and uncomfortable.  Legacy foaming Cleanser is effective enough to clean thoroughly but designed to do so gently.  Two cleansing steps would strip your skin and lead to dryness.

Why does Legacy foaming Cleanser rinse off and not tissue off?

Cleanser should always be thoroughly rinsed off with water.  Water is essential to healthy skin.  Using tissue or cotton pads to remove Cleanser tugs at the skin and leaves behind a residue.  After rinsing, your face should feel clean, soft, smooth, and refreshed.

What about gritty products used to cleanse or exfoliate, for instance oatmeal or apricot scrubs?

"Scrubbing” your face is what NOT to do!  Even rubbing too harshly with a washcloth can be hard on your skin.  Cleansers and exfoliates with granules or tiny prticles in them, that claim to clean pores, are too abrasive for skin and can actually cause microscopic tears in the edges of your pores.  This can lead to infection, as bacteria can then pentrate your skin’s natural defenses.  Legacy foaming Cleanser gently dissolves debris tohelp your skin’s antural exfoliation process gently yet effectively.

What do I do for the skin around my eyes?

Cleanse gently with Legacy foaming Cleanser, keeping your eyes closed until you have rinsed.  Then gently pat Legacy nourishing Serum around the eye area, paying a special attention to any fine lines or wrinkles.   Smooth Legacy hydrating Moisturizer around the fragile under-eye area, using delicate pats and strokes.  Eyelids have natural oil glands and need very little extra help, if any.  As with any other products, you should avoid direct contact with the eyes.

Why is there no toner in the product line?

A toner is not necessary.  The usual function of a toner is to reestablish the skin’s natural pH.  With Legacy skin care, this step is redundant and unnecessary.  Legacy foaming Cleanser neither stips the skin or leaves it “coated” with residual ingredients that need to be removed with toner, e.g., foundation.

What if my face flakes the first few times I use the nourishing Serum and hydrating Moisturizer?

Any flaking you experience is the exfoliation process at work.  Your skin is sloughing off the dead cells on top that make it look tired ad older.   Exfoliation is necessary to bring out the healthy, radiant, new skin cells beneath the dead skin cell debris on top.  If you experience flaking, just brush it away gently with your fingertips.  It should go away after a few days of using the products regularly.

With all of the vitamins and antioxidants in Legacy skin care, does that mean people don’t need to take supplements any more?

No.  In fact, combining ingestible nutritional supplements with a healthy diet is a great way to ensure healthy, beautiful skin.  Proper nutrition, along with plenty of water and enough sleep are essential to good skin.  Your skin cannot get all it needs from topical skin care products.  To create healthy new cells, and the elastin and collagen that give skin its smoothness, firmness, and elasticity, you must get proper amounts of vitamins, minerals, water, and antioxidants. 

Legacy skin care is non-comedogenic.  What does that  mean?

Non-comedogenic means the product will not clog pores, because it is non- occlusive.  In other words, it will not cover the skin and inhibit proper skin respiration.  Comedogenic ingredients like lanolin and mineral oil inhibit proper skin respiration and block pores, causing irritation and breakouts.  Legacy skin care has NO lanolin or mineral oil.

Why is a night cream not part of the initial product line?

The skin does not absorb more moisturizer at night than it does during the day.  A heavier cream may lock in more moisture on top of the top layer of dead skin cells than is practical or attractive during the day, like layering plastic wrap over something to keep moisture in.  Applying two or three separate layers of a product is actually more effective than applying one thick layer.  Even doctors in hospital emergency rooms tell patients to continuously reapply layers of medicinal creams, rather than one thick layer.  However, because many people prefer what they have traditionally used, Legacy is researching the best ingredients, texture, and weight for a possible night cream for sometime in the future.

What should people do who like to use night creams?

Anyone who feels they need a heavier dose of Moisturizer at night, or even during the day, can cleanse, nourish, and moisturize as usual.  Wait a few minutes and then apply a light second application of Legacy hydrating Moisturizer.

Legacy skin care currently has no SPF sunscreen, is that right?

Yes, currently.  It is important to note that the typical SPF level found in facial moisturizers is 15. That protection is not adequate for anyone going into direct sunlight for an extended period of time.  A sunscreen formulated for facial use should be applied for that purpose.  However, for general daily use in a moisturizer, SFP 15 is adequate.  More than that is occlusive (coats the skin) and tends to whiten skin unnaturally.  (Note:  we recommend that people use all-natural Monave minerals as a great sun protectorant on top of Legacy’s skin care and that is why they are available on this site.)
